Tottenham Hotspur could receive second chance to sign Adama Traore as Barcelona target Raphinha
According to the Spanish publication Sport (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur could get a second shot at signing Adama Traore as Barcelona target Raphinha ahead of the summer transfer window. The English club had tried to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers star back in January before he joined the Spanish side on a loan deal until the end of this season.
Traore started his life at Camp Nou in an explosive manner, but things have slowed down following Ousmane Dembele’s rise. Barca are now hesitant to trigger the £29million buy option for the Wolves loanee as they are undecided on whether to sign him permanently or not. Moreover, they are believed to be against the current terms, which could open things up for Tottenham.
Dembele’s form has forced the Catalans to review their current stance, with Xavi Hernandez eager to keep him after this season. The former’s contract expires this summer, and his club could restart negotiations if they pay heed to their coach’s desires. Now, they have also targeted Raphinha from Leeds United, which could pave the end of the road for Traore and his time in Spain.
Potential transfer boost?
Spurs could be in line to receive an opportunity to reconcile their mistakes in the January transfer window. That is if the La Liga side prioritises Raphinha over Traore moving forward. Should that happen, Antonio Conte would be a delighted man since he had plans for the Wanderers star.
Conte and Fabio Paratici are on the same page that they should bring in Traore in the future. The boss wants to convert the winger to a right-wingback as he believes the forward has all the skills that are required to succeed in that role. The manager is looking to replicate what he did with Victor Moses at Chelsea and Ivan Perisic at Inter Milan.
We could arguably have the upper hand over Bruno Lage’s side this time around if Traore returns to Molineux. After all, he will only have one more year left in his contract this summer, and they have to be wary about losing him on a free transfer in the future.

Questions can definitely be raised against Traore’s signing about whether he is the right man for the job. We certainly do not want to see a repeat of Emerson Royal, but the former is clearly a beast in terms of beating his man. But where the Spaniard falls off is with his decision making and precision in playing the final ball, which is arguably the reason why Dembele piped him to get into the starting spot.
That does cause concerns, but if the Italian boss believes that Traore is the right choice, we should back him by bringing the 26-year-old to N17. We are a bit worried about Traore’s potential signing, but we hope that those fears are proven wrong if that outcome happens sometime in the future. Until then, we have to wait and see what stance does Xavi’s team take regarding Traore ahead of the next term.
