Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur among favourites to sign Brighton star Yves Bissouma
According to 90min (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are among the favourites to secure the services of Brighton star Yves Bissouma in the summer transfer window. He has been impressive in the Premier League ever since his move from France and could be in line to leave his current club after this season.
Bissouma will enter the final year of his current contract at the end of this season. He has expressed his intentions to leave Brighton and Hove Albion, which has alerted Tottenham. But the former Lille ace has also attracted attention from several “big six” PL clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United.
However, Spurs and the Gunners are among the frontrunners for the 25-year-old’s signature ahead of this summer. As such, Graham Potter’s side has set a valuation of £50million for the midfielder, although they could be convinced to reduce the fee due to the player’s desire and the contract duration.
Go ahead, Conte!
Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks are good, but we can arguably upgrade in that department. Apart from them, Rodrigo Bentancur has been impressive alongside Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg but the duo can use some solid competition in that area.
That is especially the case after Dele Alli’s permanent exit in January coupled with Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele departing on loan. While the duo is set to return in the summer, sending them out on loan shows Conte’s thoughts on the two midfielders. As such, we have to bolster the position with quality signings, and the Malian could be one such reinforcement.
The PL ace has been a strong presence at the base of midfield for the Seagulls, and he has been impressive in that role. Signing him would be a wise decision on our part, and he may not even take a lot of time to adapt to the conditions since he already has experience playing in the English top-flight.
However, if Fabio Paratici decides to go down this route, we would be wise to use Bissouma’s apparent desire to leave as a way to bring down the price tag. We had shown an interest alongside our North London rivals and Aston Villa back in January as well, but a move never came to fruition.
By the time the summer transfer window arrives, the Mali international will have run down another few months of his contract. Brighton would know that if Bissouma doesn’t want to renew his deal, then the clock is ticking for them to sell him in a way where they can be properly compensated in financial terms.

A contract extension was explored, but it seems that it is unlikely to happen. That does favour us, but one thing that causes concern is the Seagulls’ midfielder’s desire to play in the Champions League. That has given an edge to Mikel Arteta’s side considering they lead the race for the UCL spots, but there is still a fair bit of the season left.
