Two Premier League clubs solidify interest to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Cody Gakpo
According to the Dutch source Eindhovens Dagblad via Inside Futbol (h/t Liverpool Echo), two Premier League clubs have solidified their interest in Tottenham Hotspur target Cody Gakpo ahead of the summer transfer window. He has been linked with an exit from PSV Eindhoven for quite some time and could depart after this season as a result.
Tottenham have already expressed their interest in Gakpo as they look to bolster their attacking options. However, they are not the only clubs interested in his services as Arsenal are also keeping tabs on the situation. Liverpool have also been heavily linked with a move for the forward for quite some time.
Now, it is claimed that two unknown PL sides have been “in touch” with the 22-year-old’s agent to further strengthen their respective claims. That is an interesting update, to say the least, especially when one considers how the PSV chiefs are still unsure about the attacker’s future prospects despite signing an extension recently.
Can Tottenham sign Gakpo?
It will be interesting to see if we would receive further updates on who the two PL clubs would be moving forward. Perhaps we would be one of them, which would be a great piece of news, but the duo can be our rivals as well. Let’s wait and see how this situation pans out in the coming months ahead of this summer.
The Dutchman has been terrific on the attacking front this campaign, and it is no wonder why clubs like the Gunners and Jurgen Klopp’s side are keeping tabs on him. We certainly cannot lose out on him as it would only strengthen our rivals. Not to mention, it would also see us waste an excellent opportunity to bolster our frontline.
One could ask why we need to sign the Eredivisie star when we have Son Heung-Min on the left wing. The latter would undoubtedly be the starter, so the question is valid for sure as Gakpo would want to get regular game time as well, which would not be a guarantee due to Son’s presence.
However, one look at the PL heavyweights would paint a clear picture about the need to sign Gakpo. Manchester City, for example, has lots of depth and quality in their ranks, which is the reason why they have dominated over the past few years. The Reds themselves have Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz on the left-hand side of the attack.

As such, having Son and Gakpo would greatly boost our quality on the left wing from next season onwards. After all, we are still not sure whether Bryan Gil would be ready to gain more prominence. As for Steven Bergwijn, he has fallen out of favour over the past weeks, which has thrown his future into uncertain waters.
Spots can definitely be freed up for Gakpo, but only time will tell whether we can sign him or not. We do hope that is the case in our pursuit to raise our level and challenge for silverware under Antonio Conte.
