Ally McCoist backs Manchester United to sign unhappy Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte
According to Four Four Two (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ally McCoist has pointed out that Antonio Conte is not happy at Tottenham Hotspur because of the board’s transfer policy.
The Italian joined Spurs in the first week of November last year, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm. Since then, the 52-year-old has led the team to a better position in the league table. But still, domestic cup failures and an early European departure mean that Spurs will go trophyless for yet another season.
The former Inter Milan manager has given some controversial interviews hitting the board for not providing enough financial backing in the transfer window. Even though the reasons are unknown for such an approach from the Spurs hierarchy, Ally McCoist believes it has angered the manager.
Former Rangers striker turned pundit Ally McCoist, who also played for English club Sunderland, believes Manchester United still have a viable opportunity to land Conte as their next boss at Old Trafford.
“I think United missed the boat by not appointing Conte at the end of last year, and in normal circumstances, you would think that ship had sailed; however, nothing surprises you in football.
McCoist suggests the Italian manager is not happy about his treatment from the board and he would fancy managing a team that gives him ample financial support to realise his plans.
“The one thing Conte wants is financial backing, and I am not sure he is happy with what he is getting at Spurs. He has done a few strange interviews and made a few comments that would indicate that is the case.”
Conte has done a remarkable job to get Spurs back on track even without the fancy signings. His influence has been immediate and fruitful. Some players also revealed that their physical fitness has improved due to the new training standards.
Antonio Conte’s two winter signings, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur have been a success until now. So the manager certainly knows what he is doing. It is Tottenham’s job to ensure that he is given the tools needed to do his job effectively.

Conte would only be able to field a competitive side if he gets a squad with solid depth. Even though he has some pieces of the puzzle, still there are concerns regarding the efficiency of some players; for example, no player has cemented their claim for the right-back position until now, and the lack of depth in the forward contingent could hunt our team back if anyone gets injured.
Hence the board must support him in the coming transfer window, or else they are risking losing him to a club that respects his decisions.
