Tottenham Hotspur identify Reims striker Hugo Ekitike as transfer target amidst Barcelona interest
According to the Italian media source Calciomercato.it (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have identified Reims striker Hugo Ekitike as a summer transfer target amidst interest from Barcelona. He has been excellent so far this season and has earned lots of plaudits for his performances at such a young age.
Harry Kane is the only natural striker in the Tottenham squad, which is not an ideal situation to last us throughout a season. The pursuit of Ekitike is probably because of this lack of depth as Spurs look to give more options for Antonio Conte to choose from. However, they will need to deal with Barca if they hope to finalise a move.
Spurs would also need to be wary of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, who have also registered their interest in the 19-year-old. The starlet could be in line to leave the Ligue 1 club in the summer transfer window as he prefers to move outside France ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Spurs must sign Ekitike!
The U-21 France international has been terrific this campaign for his having scored ten goals alongside three assists from 23 appearances across all competitions. That is a great return for someone who is still very young and has shown very high potential so far.
It is no wonder why many European heavyweights have expressed their interest in the talented Ligue 1 prospect. However, we are desperate for centre-forward additions and must get him in the bag at all costs.
Kane simply cannot play every single match for us from next season onward, so we need someone who is capable enough to deputise for him. Ekitike can be that man, and his eagerness to leave his home country does favour us in our pursuit to sign him.
That being said, we cannot take anyone else in the race lightly as they are more than capable enough to pip us to talented youngsters. The likes of Xavi Hernandez’s side and Atletico are still major heavyweights and would pose significant roadblocks for us to overcome.

The Gunners, on the other hand, have enjoyed a head start over us as Mikel Arteta has been building his current project for quite a while. It will be interesting to see how this battle will shape in the coming months.
We hope that Fabio Paratici can sign Ekitike as he could genuinely offer quality and depth to the team while protecting our long term interests in the process. Whether a move will happen or not remains to be seen.
