Tottenham Hotspur director of football Fabio Paratici hails Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur impact
As quoted by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur football director Fabio Paratici has hailed the quick impact made by new signings Dejan Kulusevksi and Rodrigo Bentancur, who made the switch from Juventus in January.
After going nearly the entire winter transfer window without signing any new players, Tottenham made a late swoop for the former Juve pair on deadline day to provide manager Antonio Conte with reinforcements since taking over at the club late last year.
Paratici, who was employed with the Bianconeri until last season, said that both he and Conte knew about their new signings very well given their connection to the Old Lady. Conte was both a successful player and manager with the Serie A giants.
“We know, me and Antonio Conte, we know these players very well because I was at Juve before and Antonio was in Italy, so he knows very well the players.”
While Kulusevski moved to the Lilywhites on a loan deal that lasts 18 months, Bentancur made a permanent transfer to the club. Their performances have been crucial to the side now sitting fifth in the Premier League, edging closer to a top-four finish in the Premier League table.
“Really, really quick”
Both the ex-Juve men have been the first choice for Conte since making their debuts for their new team, with Kulusevksi also managing to get on the scoresheet on a couple of occasions. Bentancur, meanwhile, has been a solid and composed presence in the centre of the pitch for us.
Paratici said that he was aware of the character, mentality, and style of play that both his new players possessed that would make them great new signings for Tottenham. He also praised their ability to quickly settle in at Spurs, despite it normally taking some time for new stars to adapt to the English top-flight.
“We knew that the character and mentality and the style of these kind of players would be right for us. Normally some players need time to adapt, to adapt to the Premier League, to England, whatever, so for Rodrigo and Deki it was really, really quick.”
January may have been a frustrating time for Spurs fans as they saw their club sit tight and watch other rivals and sides sign new players to bolster their squads, while Tottenham were deadly silent in the winter transfer window.
Deadline day brought them some joy, however, as they were able to pick up two of Serie A’s talented midfield options and add some quality to the current team managed by Conte. Thus far, it has worked out brilliantly as the pair have become a crucial part of the side.

Kulusevski has partnered up with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in an exciting trio up front for the north London side, with the attacking trident proving effective in games. Bentancur too is not far left behind in terms of performance, doubling up with midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the pitch to provide some stability to the team.
Hopefully, the duo is also able to help us finish strongly this season in order to play Champions League football next term. Not only this, but we can also be hopeful of Paratici bringing in more such players to the club in the summer in order for us to get better under Conte and break our trophy drought.
