In conversation with Europe 1 as quoted by Evening Standard, Hugo Lloris shed light on the kind of progress that Tottenham Hotspur are making under Antonio Conte.

The Lilywhites have had a roller coaster of a season, to say the least. Their performances have blown hot and cold throughout the campaign but the North London club seems to have gained some semblance of consistency in recent matches.

They managed to record crucial wins and are currently situated in 5th position three points behind fellow London rivals Arsenal having played an extra game. Spurs could thus finish the season on a high if they manage to qualify for the UEFA Champions League which is the most realistic target at the moment.

Whilst this may be a tough task to achieve, it isn’t impossible and momentum could be in favour of the club from N-17. The French keeper signed an extension with the club that keeps him at Hotspur Way until 2024.

Speaking to Europe 1 as quoted by Evening Standard, the 35-year-old shed light on the kind of effect that the Italian manager has had on Spurs. He also hinted that the North Londoners could be ready to compete in Europe pretty soon despite exiting the Conference League under unfortunate circumstances this season. Spurs have also been knocked out of the FA Cup while exiting Carabao Cup against Chelsea earlier this year.

“I extended a month and a half ago. Things were done fairly quickly with the leaders, with a lot of respect and consideration. It’s been two and a half years that we know ups and downs, irregularity in terms of results.”

“But since the arrival of Conte, we feel a real progression. We have the feeling that we are crossing a plateau. I think we will be ready to go for the European places.”

The impact of Conte

There seems to be a renewed sense of enthusiasm ever since the Italian manager took over the managerial position at Tottenham. The former Chelsea manager has helped reinvigorate the attack and brought some much-needed intensity to this team.

He also managed to reinvigorate the likes of Harry Kane who had a troublesome start to the season with regards to his own lofty standards. The English striker has now bagged 15 goals and clocked five assists in 27 matches across all competitions under Conte.

He has been the focal point of the attacking moves and has been the catalyst in their current resurgence. The French international has also been a great servant to the club having made 407 appearances for Spurs across all competitions to date.

Despite having some bouts with inconsistency, the 35-year-old has largely been a dependable option at the back. Lloris has also shown his prowess with the French national team and waxed lyrical about the former Inter Milan coach.

There has been an evident shift for the better but there is still a long way to go at Hotspur Way if the club is to challenge for titles regularly. The club faithful will be hoping that we can use our recent victories as a launching pad for the next season in an attempt to compete at the highest level.

Lloris spoke about the kind of progress that has taken place under the 52-year-old manager and the fans will be hoping that the London-based club can continue on the same trajectory in the upcoming seasons. A club like Spurs, without a trophy in the past 13 and a half years and several managerial changes in a short span of time, is no easy team to win trophies in your first season.

Conte has proved his pedigree in Italy as well as England. The least we can do is give him at least one full season with a couple of transfer windows where he has been properly backed. There is no doubt that the club has an identity under him and plays like a dangerous team. All we need is consistency and that can take time.
