Transfer News: Southampton and Crystal Palace are interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks
According to the Daily Star, Southampton and Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation of Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Winks. The 26-year-old could be open to making a move away from Hotspur Way for more regular minutes despite being a boyhood Spurs fan.
Winks has had quite a few ups and downs in his career. The English international was once being touted as the next big thing with former boss Mauricio Pochettino comparing him to the likes of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
It is safe to say that the English midfielder never managed to hit those heights with the North Londoners. His performances have blown hot and cold for a long time now as the 26-year-old midfielder grapples to cement a starting spot with Spurs.
Harry Winks has made 198 appearances for the club so far netting five goals and bagging six assists in the process. Despite being such a long-time presence in this Tottenham squad, a departure seems more imminent than ever.
Is Winks a part of the long-term plans of Tottenham Hotspur?
Antonio Conte has tried to instil an attacking brand of football at Hotspur Way ever since his arrival. While there have been inconsistencies, he has largely managed to pivot the club in the right direction.
The Italian manager could be looking for a reshuffle in the upcoming window to strengthen his squad and the 26-year-old midfielder doesn’t seem to be in his long-term plans at the moment. After all, the midfielder- arguably in the physical prime years of his career- has had just 2 minutes of action in the last 4 PL matches.
Southampton and Crystal Palace seem to be the top takers should an opportunity be provided to sign the English international. The Saints are thought to have a long-running interest in Winks, even lining up a bid for him 12 months ago.
The Eagles, on the other hand, could eye a swoop for Winks to bolster the midfield with their on-loan star Gonor Gallagher set to leave Selhurst Park this summer. The 22-year-old midfielder’s stocks have skyrocketed in the past couple of seasons after impressive loan spells with West Brom and Crystal Palace making him one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.

While Winks may have shown great potential, he never managed to live up to that throughout his career with the North Londoners. Injury issues have also disrupted his form on several occasions. That being said, the interest from Palace and Southampton could be good news, if Spurs are genuinely interested in offloading Harry Winks and benefiting financially from a player that may well be considered replaceable.
