Tottenham Hotspur battle Liverpool to sign Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur will face off against Liverpool to facilitate a transfer for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. He has developed into a fine centre-forward over the past two years since leaving LOSC Lille back in 2020.
Osimhen has been leading from the forefront for the Italian side this season in their pursuit to win the Serie A title. He has taken over the reins in attack when others like Lorenzo Insigne have fallen off the steam for quite a while. Naturally, that has attracted attention from elsewhere, with Tottenham and the Reds being two of the interested parties.
Three other Premier League clubs in Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window. The Serie A side have slapped a high asking price of £83million for the centre-forward, which is probably down to the huge demand for his services.
Osimhen- good choice for Spurs?
The Nigerian has truly evolved into one of the finest centre-forwards in world football and is among the best at this moment. With 15 goals and four assists to his name this term from 25 matches across all competitions, he has definitely lived up to his fame.
Perhaps, the Serie A attacker could have done even better if not for the injury that put a stop to the momentum he built up this season. Centre-forward is an area that we must focus on this summer, considering how we only have Harry Kane as an option in that role.
Steven Bergwijn can be utilised in that role, but his natural position is on the wing, so using him as a striker would limit his impact. As such, playing without a backup option can be detrimental to our future success as an injury or suspension to Kane can greatly derail the seasons to come.

Not to mention, the England skipper would also need adequate rest, or it could impact his fitness during the latter phase of the campaign. However, for us to sign Osimhen, Fabio Paratici needs to overcome several obstacles moving forward.
With four other PL sides vying for Osimhen’s signature, we have a stern challenge that awaits us in the future. That is without even considering the humongous price tag, which is arguably the biggest roadblock as spending that amount would greatly drain our budget. Striker is not the only position that we need to bolster, so we may drop out of the race if the club decides to use that money reasonably in the other roles.
