Team News: Newcastle United injury concerns ahead of the clash vs Tottenham Hotspur
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United boss, Eddie Howe has provided the latest updates on several injury concerns in the build-up to the match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League fixture will be hosted by Spurs tomorrow as both teams look to start with a good result following the international break.
Keiran Trippier will miss the game against Tottenham after he broke his metatarsal earlier this year. Howe has revealed that he could return sooner than expected, but it would not make sense for him to be available tomorrow. Allan Saint-Maximin will be available for selection and could even make it into the starting lineup after using the break to get back into full fitness.
The Newcastle coach is hopeful that Jonjo Shelvey, Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka will be available for Sunday’s fixture. Callum Wilson is more or less in a similar boat to Tripper and is recovering from a long term injury. Finally, there are several unknown Covid concerns, but their manager expects them to recover in time before the league game.
A tight contest?
The Magpies have truly turned things around following their excellent business in the January transfer window. Their rise in form has seen them claw out of the relegation zone with ease, and they have even made a comfortable gap of nine points from the last three places in the league table.
As such, we must be wary of them at all costs, even if they had a disappointing 1-0 loss against Everton in their previous fixture. Perhaps, their performance against Chelsea is the best example to assess their threat, as the Blues had to dig deep to get a late win against the Toons.
Eddie Howe’s side are boosted by several injury returnees, which strengthened their squad even further, even if Trippier and Wilson would be out for a while. Despite the threat that they would pose tomorrow, three points are a must for us, considering how we are in the race to finish in the top four places in the league table.

We still have an opportunity to overthrow Arsenal from the Champions League spot. The North Londoners would need to go on a great winning streak for the remainder of the season to ensure maximum chances of getting into the top four positions.
That means we must start with a win following the break, as it would genuinely give us the momentum required to push for a strong finish to this campaign. We were able to overcome our inconsistent form with two consecutive wins before the international break. But we will now need to maintain that for the rest of this season. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
