Tottenham Hotspur dealt injury blow as Sergio Reguilon pulls up in training ahead of Newcastle United clash
According to Alasdair Gold, the club’s correspondent for Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a new injury concern after Sergio Reguilon pulled up in training ahead of the match against Newcastle United. The session took place on Thursday, which means that he could still be available for tomorrow’s fixture.
Tottenham will host the Premier League game on Sunday, and they will have to deal with Newcastle following the international break. However, they may have to cope without Reguilon’s services, who is currently doubted to feature tomorrow. He could still make it in time, considering how there are a good couple of days in between the blow and the league fixture.
What makes matters worse for Spurs is how Ryan Sessegnon will be sitting in the stands for tomorrow’s game. He has suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to return only around mid-April. Should Reguilon miss the match, the North London side will need to deal with the Magpies without their two left-wingback choices.
Concerning piece of news
We have to wait and see if there are further developments regarding Reguilon’s availability in the build-up to tomorrow’s fixture. Antonio Conte did have a press conference on Friday, but he did not give any updates on the Spaniard, so it can be argued that it was a minor blow.
Perhaps, the 25-year-old defender left training as a precaution so as not to worsen the setback. That is a possibility, or else Conte may have said something about the wingback when he gave the latest team news on his squad.
We are hopeful to see that outcome as we do not have any other options in the left-wingback role as Sessegnon is already out injured. Ben Davies is a good shout, but he has been utilised as a left-sided centre-back by the Tottenham manager under his tenure. Davies himself picked up a blow, but the boss has confirmed that the defender will be available tomorrow.

Davies could be used to deputise as a wing-back while Joe Rodon could finally get his chance to make a mark. The former Inter Milan coach did praise Rodon for his excellent displays for Wales during the international break. As such, one could say that the boss might choose him in the starting lineup due to this forced situation.
That being said, it would always be best if we have most of our players in full fitness, including Reguilon. Rodon may not get his chance, but the former Real Madrid man’s availability is important as we pursue a top-four finish this season. Let’s wait and see if we receive further updates on this latest injury concern as we near Sunday’s match.
