Transfer News: Arsenal most insistent to sign Darwin Nunez amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola [Print Edition] via Sports Witness (h/t Football.London), Arsenal are the more insistent club vying to sign Darwin Nunez amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window. The forward has been excellent for Benfica throughout this season, having built on the promise he showcased the previous season.
Nunez has seen himself become one of the most sought after prospects at the end of this season. The attacker has certainly warranted these interests, considering how he already has 27 goals and three assists to his tally from 34 matches across all competitions this season. It is quite possible that the striker could improve on his current rate in the future if he attains his full potential.
Tottenham would need to ramp up their efforts since the Gunners remain an extremely insistent party in this transfer race right now. Inter Milan, Manchester United, AC Milan and West Ham United are also tracking the Uruguayan at this instant as they look to prise him away after this campaign.
Transfer blow for Spurs
Losing out on top talents is always a difficult pill to swallow but what makes it worse is if your direct rivals get their hands on them. That could be the case here as well, with Mikel Arteta’s side currently leading the race to secure the 22-year-old’s signature.
Then again, with Harry Kane being at the helm, we would always find it challenging to bring in top strikers. It is really difficult to see Antonio Conte shifting to a formation using two centre-forwards, especially when we signed Dejan Kulusevski in the January transfer window.
With Son Heung-Min also being in the ranks, we would probably continue with the three-man attacking front moving forward. That means our search for a striker is probably to find a suitable backup option for Kane as we lack someone of that kind at this moment.
We cannot afford to go another long season without a secondary centre-forward, but signing Nunez for that role could always be tough. After all, he would probably want to play more minutes than just sit on the bench as a backup option for the England captain.

Perhaps, Nunez could also be an option to replace Kane himself if he does leave N17 at the end of this term. He is heavily linked with an exit from the North London club, so they would need to prepare for a worst-case scenario. We must get a final decision from our talisman as early as possible to prepare our transfer plans for this summer.
Should Kane leave, we must go on the offensive and pip Arteta’s side to get our hands on Nunez. That would not be easy, though, as we have some ground to cover while facing competition from elsewhere as well. But knowing the England skipper’s future stance at the earliest can help us to have a greater shot at signing the Benfica star.
