Transfer News: Newcastle United rival Tottenham Hotspur for Brentford star Christian Eriksen

According to the i (h/t Daily Mail Online), Tottenham Hotspur want to facilitate a move for Brentford star Christian Eriksen in the summer transfer window. The midfielder has enjoyed a great return to football after he suffered a cardiac arrest at UEFA Euro 2020 last summer in a game against Finland.

Eriksen’s return to top-flight football has been a great sight to see following the horror incident he had to endure the previous summer. The midfielder has been in fine form since joining the Bees in January, earning plaudits for his displays since then.

And now, Tottenham have expressed an interest to re-sign their former star, but they could face competition from Newcastle- who have been greatly boosted by the Saudi takeover earlier this season.

Manchester United are already in the transfer race as they also look to get hold of the Danish international. The midfielder would be available for free at the end of this season, but Thomas Frank’s side wants to tie him down on a longer contract after he proved his quality since returning to action.

Sensational return to N17?

The 30-year-old played for nearly seven long years during his first spell with the North London side after joining them in 2013. A second tenure could be on the cards if both parties reach an agreement over a potential transfer after the current campaign.

The Premier League ace had played 305 games with us, scoring 69 goals and assisting 90 times in the process throughout his time at N17. Perhaps the attacking midfielder could further increase that tally past this summer should he reunite with us at the end of this term.

What’s more, the Bees midfielder could also join forces with Antonio Conte, who managed him at Inter Milan. After all, Eriksen moved to Italy in 2020 after his spell with us, but he did have it difficult under the boss in the early stages. However, he was a crucial part of Conte’s Inter after overcoming the struggles, helping them to win the Serie A title last season.

Hence, it would not be too much of a reach to say that we may have a slight edge over the competitors due to our prior connections with Eriksen. After all, Spurs fans loved the Dane and have always treated him as their own- even when he was away in Italy.

Furthermore, Man United cannot be taken lightly either, as they could use a midfield addition in their squad. That being said, Fabio Paratici would be wise to do his best and facilitate a reunion as we could use a creative presence like Eriksen’s in our ranks- especially if we can rope him in on a free.

The Bees were courteous enough to hand Eriksen another shot in England- with their Danish manager perhaps inclined to give his compatriot a shot at PL football after the horrific events in the Euros. But if Eriksen wants to test himself at the top level, joining a top-four contender like the Lilywhites could be a move that benefits him as well as us.
