Antonio Conte gives latest injury update on Tottenham Hotspur trio Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Sergio Reguilon
Antonio Conte has issued the latest injury update on Tottenham Hotspur trio Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Sergio Reguilon ahead of their match against Aston Villa. The Premier League fixture will take place at Villa Park on Saturday, where the visitors will look to maintain their winning streak to gain a foothold in the top four race.
Tottenham will have some injury concerns to deal with when they travel to face off against Villa. Reguilon picked up an injury during training ahead of the Newcastle United clash, which had forced him to be out of contention. Sessegnon has been out on the stands with a hamstring injury, while Skipp has struggled with his recovery for quite a while.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Football.London), Conte has revealed that the left wing-back duo has returned to team training in the build-up to the weekend’s clash. As for Skipp, the boss has confirmed that the midfielder will miss the game as he is yet to fully recover from his setback.
“No new injuries, two good news because Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon they had the training session with us. About Oliver Skipp, we have to wait. He’s not ready, he’s still not ready and we need to have patience with him and sort this problem.”

The Italian boss also gave a detailed update on the wing-back duo’s recovery process. He added that Sessegnon is behind Reguilon in terms of recovery since he was out of the sidelines for quite some time.
“But for the Aston Villa game, good news because Sergio had the training session and it was the same for Ryan Sessegnon. It was the first time for Ryan Sessegnon for a long time and for him we have to pay more attention than Sergio.”
Finally, the 52-year-old coach gave his thoughts on Skipp’s slow rehabilitation process since the central midfielder has missed more than two months of action now. The manager is adamant that the medical department must recover the academy graduate as early as possible. He added that the youngster could not be ruled out for the rest of the season in any case.
“Absolutely not, we have to recover him for this season. This must be our target, for the medical department, for the player. It’s totally different from [Japhet] Tanganga’s situation. Japh had a knee injury and was out for the season. But Skipp, no. It’s important for the player to feel this possibility and there is this possibility to recover this season. Also, we need him and we trust him.”
The two wing-backs returning to team training sessions would undoubtedly give us a boost since Matt Doherty had to deputise in their absence in a makeshift role against Newcastle. We may probably see Doherty start in that position once again to avoid a relapse by risking Sessegnon and Reguilon.
Skipp’s situation does cause some concerns, but we share a similar opinion to that of the Spurs boss since there are just four senior midfielders in our ranks right now. An injury or suspension to any of them could greatly reduce the depth and put us in a precarious situation. Hence, the club’s medics must get him back to full fitness, especially when we are fighting to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Three points are a must against Steven Gerrard’s side so that we can continue to put pressure on our direct rivals. Anything else would give Arsenal the opportunity to take over the fourth spot, which we must prevent at all costs. Let’s hope that we can continue our three-match winning run against the Lions, who have struggled of late as well.
We were lucky to win 2-1 at home against the Villans back in October when a Matt Targett own goal was enough to hand us three points. A lot has since changed for both sides and it remains to be seen if we can do the double over them this season.
