Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur enter race to sign Everton striker Richarlison
According to the Brazilian publication UOL via Caught Offside (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to secure the signature of Everton striker Richarlison ahead of the summer transfer window. He has endured a subdued season so far, which is also down to the struggles his team have undergone during this period.
The Brazilian has been linked with an exit from Goodison Park for quite some time. In fact, The Sun claimed last month that Dominic Calvert Lewin or Richarlison would be sold to compensate for the losses the Toffees have suffered over the last three campaigns. Amidst the financially stricken situation, the former Watford star has attracted attention from Tottenham.
Spurs are not alone, though, as Newcastle United have “joined the race” alongside them ahead of the next term. Manchester United have already expressed an interest in him, with the centre-forward currently being valued at €80million in transfer fees. Italian sources (h/t Liverpool Echo) had stated that Juventus were also a potential destination for the attacker.
Should Spurs sign Richarlison?
It is pretty clear how we cannot go another campaign with Harry Kane as our only striker option in the team. It is baffling how the board have even allowed that to happen as we have struggled to rest our talisman due to the lack of an adequate backup option. Not to mention, we did suffer without our superstar when others had deputised in an unfamiliar role.
Hence, the North London side’s interest in Richarlison is certainly understandable, especially with the dire condition Frank Lampard’s team are going through. However, we should not pay the asking price considering how we can take advantage of their financial situation to negotiate a lower amount.
Who knows, should the Merseyside club drop down to the Championship, their relegation would naturally affect the valuation getting reduced. Hence, we must keep a close eye on the survival battle as it could benefit us at the end of this season.
The Premier League ace still has scored seven goals and four assists this campaign from 26 matches across all competitions. That is a solid return, looking at how Everton have been throughout his term. However, his quality shines in the Brazil national team, where he enjoys a more solid team around him to play with.

Hence, the Toffees attacker could be a wonderful signing to bring as a backup to Kane. Richarlison can also play on both wings, making him an even better prospect to add to our team. Fortunately, Newcastle have been touted as “a sideways step”, which means that we only need to be wary of Man United at this moment.
Fabio Paratici and co must get this deal in the bag as it is essential that we provide Antonio Conte with a solid backup option. Only time will give us an answer regarding our pursuit to sign him moving forward.
