Tottenham Hotspur dealt an injury blow as Matt Doherty will miss the rest of this season
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have received a frustrating blow as Matt Doherty will miss the rest of this season through a knee injury. He had picked up the issue during the Premier League game against Aston Villa, where his side won 4-0 recently.
Doherty suffered the problem following a challenge from Matty Cash early in the league fixture. He had tried to fight off the issue after treatment but could not continue to carry on in the end. He was seen leaving Villa Park with a knee brace, and the fears have been proven right following this update.
The Irishman has undergone scans since then, which have revealed the extent of this injury. It is claimed that he has broken the medial collateral ligament in his knee, which would rule him out for up to 12 weeks. A decision regarding surgery is yet to be made following the damning update Spurs have received.
We cannot catch a break!
The 30-year-old was finally getting back to his best in the past few weeks before his progress was halted by this setback. The defender was arguably at his best self for Tottenham during this phase as he could not recapture his form from the days at Wolverhampton Wanderers after joining us back in 2020.
It is frustrating to see how we have been dealt with another long term injury, especially when the Premier League star was starting to impress consistently. After all, he has raised his level under Antonio Conte, earning two goals and four assists from 21 matches across all competitions.
Following this injury, we now have three players in total who are currently out with a long term injury. Japhet Tanganga has already been ruled out for the remainder of this campaign, while Oliver Skipp has been on the sidelines for more than two months or so.
Doherty’s injury has come at the worst time for us, especially when we have upped our game in the last few weeks. With the top four race set to go down to the wire, the smallest of margins could prove decisive.

After all, the former Wolves ace has been sensational for us in the right wing-back position, which has certainly played a part in us breaking into the top four. His backup, Emerson Royal, has struggled to get going since joining us last summer. We just hope that the latter will use this opportunity to raise his game and take the chance that has come his way.
In the meantime, we hope Doherty can make a speedy recovery to get him back to full fitness ahead of the next term. The medical department must make a quick decision regarding surgery and prevent what had happened with Tanganga, for example.
