Spurs open to reuniting Conte with 33-year-old Serie A star on a fast-expiring contract

Fabrizio Romano: Ivan Perisic set to undergo his Tottenham Hotspur medical today.

Tottenham Hotspur ready to consider transfer for Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic

According to Ryan Taylor of The Express on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are willing to consider a potential move for Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic in the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed a great season in Italy so far despite being in the latter stages of his playing career.

Perisic will see his current contract expire at the end of this campaign. That means he is currently able to reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs if he plans to move elsewhere this summer. Tottenham are keeping tabs on the situation to see if he would renew his deal with Inter.

Spurs are not alone, however, as several clubs from England and Germany are monitoring the Croatian right now as well. Antonio Conte’s side is ready to assess the prospect of signing the attacker if only the financial terms would make sense regarding a prospective transfer.

Spurs to sign Perisic?

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a solid season so far, having scored five goals and providing six assists from 40 appearances across all competitions. The winger dropped another splendid display recently against Hellas Verona in Serie A with two assists in that game. That has pushed them to second place in the league table trailing AC Milan by two points while having a match in hand.

The Serie A ace has been utilised as a left-sided midfielder this term, but he can play as a wing-back for his side. That could certainly suit Conte’s system, but questions can be raised on whether we need him at all. After all, we have options in the left wing-back slot, with Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon forming the two choices.

Perisic can also play as a left-winger, but we also have options in that area. Son Heung-Min is our primary choice in that role, while Steven Bergwijn plays as a backup to him. As such, it is difficult to see a spot for the Inter forward unless there are departures this summer.

Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that a new meeting is set to take place between the Nerazzurri and the Croatian international over a contract extension. The outcome of that talk could give us an idea about whether we would even have the opportunity to sign him or not.

Signing Perisic would make even more sense if Steven Bergwijn leaves the club in the near future. After all, the latter has struggled to earn minutes since January, and he had even expressed last month that an exit cannot be ruled out.

Should that happen, Perisic would be a solid choice as he would be a fine backup for Son while offering enough quality to contribute towards our success when needed.

Not just that, the Croatian has shown that he can play as a wing-back and perhaps could even pair up with the South Korean down the left-hand side for us. Hence, let’s wait and see the outcome of the contract meeting that will be scheduled soon.
