Antonio Conte pressuring Tottenham Hotspur to complete Dejan Kulusevski permanent transfer
According to ESPN, Antonio Conte has been pressuring Tottenham Hotspur to complete the permanent transfer for Dejan Kulusevski as soon as possible. The winger joined the English club after leaving Juventus in January, and he has been an instant hit for them so far.
Conte has always been an admirer of Kulusevski’s qualities, and the boss even wanted to sign the attacker during his tenure at Inter Milan. The former’s admiration seems to be not laid bare at all as the forward has been excellent for Tottenham since joining them in the January transfer window.
Now, the Italian manager wants Spurs to permanently sign the 21-year-old to resolve any uncertainty left regarding the latter’s future at the club. The winger had moved to N17 on an initial 18-month loan move worth €10million, but they would also need to part ways with €30million to trigger the buy-option in his deal this summer.
Obvious decision!
We cannot see any reason why the North London side should not activate the optional clause to sign the Swede permanently this summer. After all, he has quickly developed insane chemistry with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, which has caused Lucas Moura to fall down the pecking order.
Kulusevski has garnered three goals and six assists to his name since the loan move from just 11 Premier League appearances. While there were doubts about his signing due to his disappointing spell with Juve, those fears have been wiped aside by his fine performances so far.
The price set for the PL ace’s services could seriously dent our transfer budget, considering how we also need to pay €55million to Atalanta to sign Cristian Romero permanently as well. However, it would not make sense not to take that option when the Spurs duo have been splendid for us.
We could stagger the financial impact on our budget by opting to sign Kulusevski using a mandatory clause that will activate in 2023. The Bianconeri loanee would need to feature in 50% of Tottenham’s Premier League games next season, which is expected considering his importance to the squad.
However, the downside is that we would need to pay a higher amount than the optional clause included in the loan deal. As such, it would be best for us to trigger the buy-option and reduce the total spend sum even if we would endure a greater financial impact this summer.
Conte would want to strengthen elsewhere this summer- that won’t be a surprise if it happens. But Kulusevski’s permanent transfer could take away our spending budget. However, such expenses are a must if there are plans to compete for winning silverware moving forward.

It is akin to laying the foundations for a stronger Spurs side that can really become a force in England in the near future. While short-term success is perhaps something that would appeal to the fans more given our trophy drought, it is important to keep the bigger picture in mind.
Having said that, it is also clear that the Swede is a part of our current starting XI and would play an important role this season as well as the next one- if he continues to impress Conte at this rate.
