Antonio Conte tests positive for Covid-19 ahead of Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton clash
According to the Evening Standard, Antonio Conte has tested positive for Covid-19 in the build-up to the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton. His side will host the league fixture which will take place this weekend on a Saturday, 16 April.
Conte has been found to have contracted the coronavirus the previous weekend, and he is currently in isolation to prevent further spread within the Tottenham camp. This news would be a blow as his absence during training sessions would have been felt among the squad.
However, in a piece of good news, Spurs do expect the Italian to be available against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday. They believe he will overcome the symptoms in the coming days. What’s more, he is also expected to hold the pre-match press conference on Thursday, although it will be online through Zoom, unlike the usual in-person presser at Hotspur Way training ground.
Worried for a second!
It is good to know that the 52-year-old is in line to return to contention against the Seagulls. After all, his presence in and of itself gives the players a massive boost which is evident from our performances past halftime against Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Our first-half displays in both those league games were forgettable, but the final 45 minutes were one of the best performances of this season. That shows how crucial the former Inter Milan man’s halftime talks are and how his words encourage the players to do their best.
As such, having Conte against Graham Potter’s side would do us wonders when compared to a situation where he would not be in the dugout. We are hoping that the players have worked to their best even if the boss was not present in person at the training ground.
The North Londoners must maintain the momentum they have built over the past few matches in this weekend’s fixture. We are firmly in control over our fortunes in the top-four race in the league table at this point. That being said, we would need to overcome several stern challenges to hold our spot in fourth place.

Brighton would be no pushovers as they have shown in their 2-1 victory against Arsenal. We must not drop any more points in the league to ensure that we have the best chance of qualifying for the next campaign’s Champions League.
While we are firmly in contention right now, dropping points could turn the tides in the favour of our direct rivals, which is the last thing we need right now. Hence, the players must be consistent with their performances in the remaining few matches of this term.
