Tottenham Hotspur star Ryan Sessegnon responds to Antonio Conte about injury issues
Ryan Sessegnon has responded with his thoughts about the predisposition claim made by Antonio Conte regarding the former’s constant injury issues. The defender has been on the receiving end of regular hamstring problems since leaving Fulham back in 2020.
The latest muscle setback came at a time when Sessegnon was looking to be at his best since joining Tottenham in a £25million move. Before that blow, he enjoyed a streak of six consecutive appearances, which was his longest run in the Tottenham first team. That injury prompted Conte to convey that it is a predisposition for the wing-back to suffer such issues.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ESPN, the Englishman agrees with what the Italian boss has said about his recurring problems. The defender added that he needs to be more intelligent in the way he manages his body moving forward.
Can Sessegnon overcome his hamstring issues?
“Definitely it is something that I have to manage because I am at a stage where… coming through when I was a bit younger at Fulham, I had no injuries. And then I’m at Spurs now and I’ve had a few problems but as I’m getting older, I need to start managing the intensity of training, the way I train.”
The 21-year-old continued by expressing that he must control himself and manage his workload wherever possible. He added that he is currently working on these aspects to manage his efforts better and to restrict them to only when it is necessary.
“Obviously, under Conte, the training is intense anyway but it is about being a bit more mature and smart in certain sessions here and there, not going 100% — that’s just my nature and the way I play. It is just knowing your body, being smart and trying to be available every game. So going forward I’m trying to learn these things.”
The Premier League star was on the receiving end of several blows throughout his tenure at N17 so far. Fortunately for him, his playing career has only just started, and he has many years left in his bag to still fulfil the potential he had shown at an early age.
As a young prospect who is making it into the game, eagerness to succeed could overcome their mind and prevent them from playing to their best. Perhaps, that is what happened with the Spurs ace, which may have caused him to constantly put in high efforts.
In more good news for us, the English defender is also in line to achieve full fitness ahead of the PL fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion. He was in fine form before the hamstring injury had halted his progress. We hope that he can continue from where he left from here on out moving forward.
