Antonio Conte reveals he will be present for Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton clash after Covid-19 positive test
Antonio Conte has conveyed that he will be on the bench after testing positive for Covid-19 ahead of the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion. The Premier League fixture will take place this Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he is expected to be present following this update.
Conte was found to have contracted the coronavirus on Sunday after he showed mild symptoms. Following the result, he was forced to change his usual training methods as his team led the sessions while he kept an eye on them at a distance. He is now set to undergo another test before the match when Tottenham would be hoping to see a negative outcome.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Daily Mail Online), the Italian has expressed that he is feeling well right now after suffering from a pain in his throat a while back. The boss also added that he expects to be in the dugout on Saturday, considering how much time has passed since the positive test.
“I attended the training session from distance. My staff, they did a really good job. After the game against Aston Villa and the day after, I started to feel a bit of mild symptoms, pain in my throat and I asked to have a Covid test and it was positive but now I’m fine, I’m well. I attended a training session from distance and I think on Saturday I will stay on my place on the bench. Given the length of time [since] my [positive] Covid test, I think I can stay on the bench on Saturday.”
A welcome boost!
Having the 52-year-old coach on the sidelines would be really helpful as he can provide valuable input during the league fixture. Not to mention, his passion can be infectious as well as it would rub off on the players and force them to play at a top gear throughout the match.
It is good to know that the former Juventus manager has recovered well from the virus. Having him on the sidelines for too long would have been the last thing we wanted at a crucial stage in the season. Now we are hoping to see a negative result so that there will not be any more complications on Saturday.
Brighton come into the game on the back of an impressive 2-1 win against Arsenal, which in turn aided us in the top four race. However, that victory would be problematic for us this time around as they would be boosted and would look to do the same against us.

The Seagulls were going through a bad patch of form, but the three points against the Gunners would give them the motivation to rally themselves to get out of this rut. We must not let that happen, especially when the Champions League qualification is on the line.
With not many matches left in this campaign, we must continue our winning streak to keep putting pressure on our opponents. Let’s hope to see that happen once again this Saturday with the help of Antonio Conte.
