Transfer News: Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Antony
According to The Sun (h/t Football.London), Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign Ajax winger Antony who is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutch boss is expected to take over the managerial role at Old Trafford from the next season onwards.
With an official announcement due to take place, Ten Hag is already laying down the transfer plans for this summer. He wants to bring the Brazilian attacker alongside him to Carrington after this term. Tottenham have expressed an interest to sign the forward, whereas Arsenal are also in the fray.
What’s more, it is stated that the 22-year-old would cost more than £50million in transfer fees which is a bit expensive, to say the least. The asking price is claimed to have caused doubts in the minds of both North London clubs regarding a potential move at the end of this campaign.
Blow for Spurs?
The Eredivisie forward is widely regarded as one of the best-attacking prospects in world football as he has grown considerably in recent years under Ten Hag. The winger has been terrific this season, having scored 12 goals and assisted ten times from 33 matches across all competitions.
Antony would undoubtedly be a great prospect for any team in the world, but questions can be raised about whether we need him right now or not. After all, we just brought in Dejan Kulusevski in the January transfer window, and it looks like we are in line to pay £25million to permanently buy the Juventus loanee.
With Lucas Moura also being an option on the right-wing, we are not in any desperate need to sign more reinforcements in that position. It would be best to use the asking price set for Antony’s services in areas that we need to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

Hence, Man United’s pursuit and the Gunners’ interest would not cause any blows for us, especially when Antonio Conte’s side already have doubts regarding a move for Antony. That being said, it would be best if neither of our direct rivals gets their hands on a talented player like the Brazil international.
After all, we would not want them to get better by bringing Antony into their respective squads. As such, let’s wait and see how this situation will turn out to be in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.
