Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur battle Inter Milan for PSG star Leandro Paredes
According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out with Inter Milan for the signature of PSG star Leandro Paredes ahead of the summer transfer window. The English club are looking to bolster their midfield after this season following the demands from Antonio Conte.
Paredes will enter the final year of his current contract in Paris at the end of this term. Paris Saint-Germain could decide to part ways with him this summer so as not to lose him for free in the next campaign. Conte wants Tottenham to take advantage of this situation and sign the midfielder whom the boss had targeted during his time with Chelsea.
The French side could sell the Argentine for a fee of around £21million in transfer fees. However, Inter would pose real problems for Spurs as it is claimed that the former could use their good relationship with the Ligue 1 club to reduce the asking price. Hence, the holding midfielder could move to Serie A for just £16.5million this summer.
Could Spurs sign Paredes?
It is baffling to see that the 27-year-old was not preferred by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of this campaign. After all, he is only one of their few technical players in midfield who is comfortable on the ball. What’s more, that decision was a bit puzzling following the impressive Copa America he enjoyed last year.
Pochettino did realise his mistake and brought the Ligue 1 ace back into the mix, but injuries have plagued the midfielder throughout this season. With Paredes struggling with all these setbacks, a change of scenario could do him wonders moving forward.
N17 could be the perfect solution, considering how the Spurs manager also wanted the Argentinian in the past. We could use him in our ranks as well, following the three departures we had in midfield in the January transfer window.
We only brought in Rodrigo Bentancur in winter, which means that we are a bit light-handed in the midfield areas. Hence, Paredes could be a useful addition, but with the Nerazzurri vying for him, we are in line to be dealt with heavy competition for his services.

The Serie A club’s relationship with Pochettino’s side could be problematic if it is so strong as to even reduce the price tag. However, we must not let up as no formal approaches have been made to sign the PSG midfielder. Even if we cannot reduce the sum like Inter, the current valuation is still pretty solid considering how valuable he can be to our team.
It will be interesting to see how this situation will pan out in the coming months ahead of the next season. We hope that the management can back Conte by bringing in the targets that he wants as it would be in our best interests.
