Fabrizio Romano: Agent of Tottenham Hotspur target Christian Eriksen set to meet with Brentford this summer

According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the agent of Tottenham Hotspur target Christian Eriksen is set to meet with Brentford this summer regarding future prospects. The midfielder has enjoyed quite a solid run of form following his horror incident in the Euro 2020.

Eriksen had succumbed to a cardiac arrest last summer, but he has returned to action with a strong response so far. He has been impressive for his club and country, which has prompted Tottenham to express their interest in signing him. However, there have been no formal discussions just yet over a potential move.

Now, Romano has revealed that the Dane’s representative will hold a meeting with the Bees at the end of this season. He has also shut down claims of an option to extend the midfielder’s current contract, which will expire this summer.

It is also claimed that Spurs will not take a final decision on their former star right now. Eriksen was released by Inter Milan in December last year and was signed by the London-based club on a short-term deal until this summer.

Reunion on the cards?

It is far from certain at this point that the 30-year-old could return to N17 after leaving us to join Inter Milan back in 2020. After all, the North Londoners have not made a clear stance on their interest just yet, which means that a reunion is not close to happening at this stage.

Fortunately, it is good to know that there is no one-year extension in the Premier League ace’s current deal. That would have been a bit problematic if we actively wanted to secure his signature after this term. But that is not the case, and now we must look toward the meeting that is set to be held this summer.

We could use the former Inter man in our ranks, considering how we only have four midfielders at this moment. While that is enough for the current season, our depth would be lacking for the next campaign, especially when we would engage in several different competitions. What’s more, achieving Championship League qualification would further make it necessary to bolster the centre of the pitch.

The Danish international has showcased since returning to the top-flight that he can still perform as a creative outlet in midfield. We could use someone like that in our squad if our struggles to create chances in the 1-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion are anything to go by.

Moreover, he would add depth to this side and his knowledge of the club since Andre Villas-Boas’ days would surely make him an important presence in the dressing room as well. Not to mention, Eriksen’s failure to extend his Brentford contract would then mean he is a free agent this summer.

However, going by this update, there has been no progress in our pursuit so far, considering how the clubs have not even formally held any discussion regarding a summer transfer. As such, let’s wait and see what stance would Antonio Conte’s side take in the coming months ahead of the next term.
