Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy ‘ chatting incessantly’ to boss Mauricio Pochettino as PSG exit looms
According to Le Parisien, via Get French Football News (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy has been in constant contact with Paris-Saint Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino regarding a return to north London with the Argentine set to be sacked soon.
Pochettino managed Spurs between 2014 and 2019, leading them to a Champions League final and two League Cup summit clashes during his tenure at the club. He was also lauded for promoting youth players from the academy into the first team.
After he was sacked by Levy, the 50-year-old was appointed as the new head coach of PSG last year. He only recently led them to a Ligue 1 title with four games to spare, which also marks his first league title triumph in his managerial career.
However, despite his recent success in the league, Pochettino has not been able to win over the fans or convince the French side that he is the man for the job. He has been under scrutiny ever since his team blew a two-goal lead against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 tie to be knocked out of the competition.
Conte-Pochettino swap?
Now, after just winning the Ligue 1 trophy, he looks set to get the sack by the Parc des Princes outfit. The French club seems sure about this decision, even though the manager and his staff’s dismissal will cost them around €15m.
Tottenham’s name has been heavily thrown around as a possible destination for the Argentine, with Levy said to be ‘chatting incessantly’ to the ex-Southampton head coach over recent months. Moreover, there have also been accounts of incumbent Lilywhites manager Antonio Conte offering his services to PSG next season.
There seems to be a transfer merry-go-round involving Tottenham and PSG in the summer, but instead of players, it is managers that seem to be making the switch. Although nothing is confirmed as of yet, there seems to be a lot of speculation regarding the future of Pochettino in France.
Despite only joining 2021, the ex-Spurs man looks like he is being booted out of Paris for failing to progress in the Champions League. The Ligue 1 title won over the weekend seems to have done no favours to his position, with the UCL clearly remaining their priority and objective.
It is surprising to see Conte’s name being linked to PSG as well, despite the Italian only taking charge at N17 earlier this season. He has not even been in charge of the side for a full campaign, and this talk of a move away from north London may distract the team from their current hopes of achieving a top-four spot by the summer.

The current Lilywhites boss sees his side sit fifth in the Premier League table, two points away from securing fourth place and qualifying for the Champions League next term. Levy will want him to focus on that at the moment, rather than deal with rumours such as this.
Poch arguably had his chance at Spurs and while he led this team to the brink of UCL glory, it always seemed like the club was better off appointing a serial winner like Conte to really take this football to the next level. It seems odd that the Italian and the Argentine are already being linked with such a swap in the near future.
