Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur trail race for Peterborough United star Ronnie Edwards
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are currently trailing the race for the signature of Peterborough United star Ronnie Edwards ahead of the summer transfer window. He has earned rave reviews for his excellent performances this season, resulting in interest from a host of clubs.
Edwards is widely regarded as one of the upcoming superstars, having become a regular for club and country in a short time. Perhaps, his potential could be best conveyed by how he was assessed by 98 scouts at once during a match for the U19 England set-up. Tottenham have already expressed an interest in him, but it appears that he is in line to leave England.
That is because RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are the frontrunners in securing the Englishman’s services at this moment. It is also stated that he could be sold for a price between £15million and £20million in transfer fees. With Crystal Palace also vying to sign him, one cannot fault the Posh for putting such a valuation on the starlet.
Blow for Spurs?
The 19-year-old has recently played in a back three system for the Championship side, which could suggest that he could be the right fit for Antonio Conte. He has impressed in the new formation just as he did in a four-man backline. That should end the concerns regarding adaptation to the new tactics at N17.
We could use an understudy like Edwards in our ranks, considering how we only have three reliable options at this moment. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have been the go-to choices for Conte when it comes to structuring the defensive set-up.
Others like Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have struggled to gain minutes while Japhet Tanganga is out for the rest of the season. Tanganga could be moved out as well since he has not fared well before suffering the season-ending injury.
As such, Edwards could have a role with us and having received a recommendation from Sir Alex Ferguson for the Manchester United senior team, one could say that he is ready to jump to the Premier League sooner rather than later. That being said, the North Londoners need to ramp up their efforts since they are falling behind the race right now.

The current asking price is expensive as well, although we could try to negotiate this season. They could use a cash windfall in such a case, and we could use their plight to further turn the valuation in our favour.
Let’s hope to see a turnaround in our current circumstances if there are active plans to sign one of the most promising stars in the Championship.
