Tottenham Hotspur handed transfer boost for AS Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo
According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t football.london), forward Nicolo Zaniolo has ‘no intention’ to sign a new contract with AS Roma and continue his career in the capital, which could prove to be a huge transfer boost for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian has enjoyed a stellar season thus far in Serie A, leading the line for his club and contributing to goals and assists. After the injury setback he had the previous campaign, Zaniolo has bounced back in fine fashion.
Playing under former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, the winger has been a crucial part of the Giallorossi side that has made it into the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League. The pair are also working hard in Italy to ensure the club qualifies for the Europa League next term.
Now, it seems that the 22-year-old could be set for a move away from Roma in the near future, after news broke out that he does not intend to continue with the club beyond his current deal. Zaniolo is tied to the club until 2024.
Spurs register interest in Zaniolo
Given this background, the Italian side will be looking to cash in on the player rather than lose him for free later on. He is expected to cost interested clubs around £42m in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Spurs one of the sides looking to snap him up.
CalcioMercato and Fichajes (h/t football.london) have suggested that Tottenham are keen on securing his signature at the end of the season, with manager Antonio Conte keen on adding quality reinforcements to his side ahead of his debut full season at N17.
Conte is aiming to turn the Lilywhites into world-beaters next term and build a side that can compete for silverware and end their trophy drought. The north London club last won a title in 2008, when they lifted the League Cup.
After only managing to get Dejan Kulusevksi and Rodrigo Bentancur on deadline day of the winter transfer window, the head coach will want Tottenham to step up their efforts and get more quality players in the summer.

Zaniolo certainly fits the bill as someone who could improve the attack, having netted 15 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. With a few games left until the end of the season, the Italian could add more to his tally and increase his worth to Roma.
Having built a budding partnership up front with Tammy Abraham, Conte can look forward to Zaniolo possibly forging a strong relationship with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min and adding more goals to an already strong Spurs attack.
