Antonio Conte reveals Sergio Reguilon will miss Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City clash
Antonio Conte has revealed that Sergio Reguilon will be out injured for the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City on Sunday. The Premier League fixture will take place at N17, where his side will be looking to get over their disappointing results in the last two games.
Reguilon had come back from another injury that he picked up earlier this month before suffering the latest setback. The defender endured some pain in his groin, and he will be out in the stands against Leicester. Conte has confirmed the matter in his pre-match presser (h/t Football.London).
“Yeah, the only update is that [Sergio] Reguilon is not available. He has a groin pain. The others are OK. If you ask me how much time he needed, I don’t know.”
The 52-year-old boss also gave an update on Oliver Skipp, who had undergone surgery on his hip flexor blow. The midfielder has already been ruled out for the rest of this season. Conte mentioned that the medical department confirmed a successful operation on the injury. He also added that the youngster will now join them for the pre-season after this summer.
“I have spoken with the doctors and they said to me that the surgery was OK, it went well. For sure, Oliver will be ready for pre-season, for next season. It’s a pity because don’t forget that we lost two players in Skipp and Tanganga from January. We don’t have two reliable players like them and for sure it’s not good for me to manage the situation. This squad is not so deep so to lose two players that for us we’re talking about important players; it’s not good news.”
Wing-back concerns?
Reguilon’s injury does cause some concerns, considering how Ryan Sessegnon is the only other option we have on the left-hand side of the defence. The former’s repeated troubles do raise doubts over his fitness which may have played a part in his subdued performances in recent weeks.
Moreover, Sessegnon himself has only returned from a long term hamstring setback. As such, we hope that he will not be subjected to huge physical efforts following Reguilon’s injury. We have not received a timeframe on the latter’s return, so we are optimistic about seeing him achieve full recovery at the earliest.
Ben Davies is a player who can play down that side as well, but the ex-Swansea City man has been utilized as a third centre-back under Conte. Keeping all this in mind, it is imperative that Spurs add a couple of new faces to their defence this summer.
As for Skipp, it is unfortunate how we lost the youngster for the remainder of the current campaign. Spurs fans would agree with the Italian coach in the sense that losing a key player like him would undoubtedly be a damning blow for us. The central midfielder will be joining Japhet Tanganga, who has already been confirmed to miss this term.

We have dropped points in our last two games, which resulted in us losing ground to Arsenal in the top four race. That being said, this coming matchday could be huge as our bitter rivals will take on West Ham United, which could give us a helping hand in our pursuit to achieve Champions League football.
The Foxes have been in a poor run of form, so this match could give us an opportunity to overcome our recent slump. Only time will tell whether the team will show a reaction to keep us in contention for the top four places.
