Transfer News: Southampton and Fulham interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers
According to transfer news on 90 mins (h/t Shields Gazette), Southampton and Fulham are amongst a host of clubs interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers in the summer. The 24-year-old is currently having an impressive loan spell at Celtic.
Carter-Vickers has been a sturdy presence for the Hoops this season. The USMNT international has bagged four goals and one assist in 42 matches across all competitions for the Scottish club this campaign.
The centre-back has been a stellar revelation at Celtic Park, growing immensely under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou. The 56-year-old manager has previously highlighted his desire to keep Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic past his current loan deal.
Increasing interest for Carter-Vickers
The Southend-born player has been attracting great interest from clubs owing to his impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership. His stability at the back has played a pivotal role in keeping the Bhoys at the top of the table in Scotland’s top flight at the moment.
The USMNT centre-back has found it tough to break into the senior Spurs squad, having made only five senior appearances for the North Londoners to date. With Eric Dier, Ben Davies, and Cristian Romero being the preferred central defenders under Antonio Conte, it is difficult to see how Carter-Vickers would break into the starting lineup.
At 24, he would be looking to gain regular game time under his belt rather than warm the bench. A move away from the club wouldn’t be such a bad idea in this scenario, especially if a lucrative deal is on the cards.
That being said, the club may require more reinforcement in the summer. A sale could potentially help boost their financial resources and it would be interesting to see whether the club decides to let go of Carter-Vickers with a view to boosting its funds.

The 24-year-old has grown in a great capacity yet a club has to make tough choices such as these. We hope that Spurs take all different factors into consideration before any prospective move, as a sale to a direct PL rival could also hinder us in the seasons to come.
Conte has managed teams such as Inter Milan, Juventus, and Chelsea and these three teams had exceptional backlines that spurred them to win trophies. At Spurs, he would be smart to replicate that and if Carter-Vickers truly falls into the category of players that can play regularly for the Lilywhites is something only time can tell.
