Tottenham Hotspur to battle Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace for Sunderland ace Dan Neil
According to a tweet from Pete O’Rourke (h/t Sunderland Echo), Tottenham Hotspur will have to fight Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace to land Sunderland rising star Dan Neil.
The 20-year-old has been a strong presence in the middle of the pitch for The Black Cats in his time at the Stadium of Light. Neil also bagged the prestigious North East Football Writers’ Association’s young player of the year 2021.
The Sunderland born-player had a breakthrough last season and his performances even earned him a national call up to the U-20 England side. The English youngster is currently tied down to a contract with Sunderland that extends to 2025.
Dan Neil to Spurs?
The youngster has proven his mettle in the last couple of seasons with the EFL League One club. Neil has bagged four goals and eight assists in 46 matches across all competitions for Sunderland this term.
He has become a dependable asset in midfield for Alex Neil’s men being predominantly deployed as a central midfielder. The 20-year-old has also played as a defensive midfielder and even deputised as a left-back on a couple of occasions.
This goes to show the versatility of the lad and Spurs could do with a talented youngster amongst their ranks. Neil would probably go into our development team or out on loan in a bid to further refine his qualities should we manage to pull off a deal for him.
That being said, the youngster still has a few years remaining on his current contract. Coupled with the interest from other PL clubs, the North Londoners could have an uphill battle on their hands, should they be genuinely interested in securing his services.

Being linked to a budding youngster is always a good sign as it highlights our long-term vision for the club. Dan Neil also fits the profile of the kind of players Fabio Paratici has recruited recently such as Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil.
It would hence be interesting to see whether or not Tottenham are able to lure the young English midfielder to Hotspur Way anytime soon.
