Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Barcelona for Wolves star Ruben Neves
According to 90min (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are rivalling Barcelona for the services of Wolves star Ruben Neves ahead of the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed another solid season in the Premier League so far, which has attracted attention from elsewhere.
Antonio Conte wants Tottenham to strengthen their midfield as they look to raise the squad’s quality ahead of the next term. Hence, they have expressed an interest in signing Neves, who is claimed to be aspiring to move to a bigger club for a sterner challenge. That could be problematic for the English club, with Barca looking to target him as well.
However, the Blaugrana side is not the only team that Spurs should be wary of when it comes to signing the Portuguese international. Arsenal and Manchester United are also in the running for the defensive midfielder, which could lead to a potential transfer tussle this summer.
Neves to Spurs?
Following the loan departures of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso and the permanent sale of Dele Alli last January, we are a bit light-handed when it comes to the options available in midfield. While Rodrigo Bentancur was signed to negate that to an extent, it is still not enough in a long season.
What’s more, Harry Winks’ future at N17 has raised some doubts after he is failing to garner minutes even though Oliver Skipp has been out for a while. Now, with the North London side also targeting Neves, that puts Winks into uncertain waters ahead of the next term.
Neves would be a useful addition indeed, considering how well he has performed since Wolverhampton Wanderers had achieved promotion to the English first division. His Premier League experience, coupled with his quality, makes him an even better prospect.
However, it remains to be seen if the Wanderers would be willing to part ways with the 25-year-old. He still has two years left in his current contract, which still puts them in control over the holding midfielder’s future.

We must also keep an eye out for the competition, which could prove to be troublesome for our future plans. That being said, fans would remain hopeful that the club is able to back Conte by bringing in the adequate signings moving forward. Whether Neves would be one such addition or not remains to be seen.
But there is no denying that with his ability, age, and experience of playing in England, he would surely be a fine addition were Spurs to get their hands on him.
