Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan de Vrij linked with a move to Manchester City
According to several Italian sources (h/t Daily Mail Online), Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan de Vrij has been linked with a potential move to Manchester City in the summer transfer window. He is in line to leave Inter Milan at the end of the current campaign.
De Vrij is widely expected to depart Inter on a free transfer after this season. That has seen him get linked with a move to Man City, while Tottenham have also been touted as another potential destination.
Paris Saint-Germain could also join the transfer race for the Dutchman if they cannot sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger. With Rudiger looking like being set to join Real Madrid, Spurs would likely have to deal with PSG as well if the English side wants to get hold of the Inter star.
Spurs dealt blow?
The link to Pep Guardiola’s side would undoubtedly be a major concern for our interest since they are in a far better place than us at this moment. That in and of itself creates doubt about our chances which is further heightened by the likely entry of the French side as well.
That being said, we are hoping that Antonio Conte could have a say in this transfer race, considering the fact that he did manage the 30-year-old during their time together at Giuseppe Meazza. Perhaps that could play a part in this pursuit, although there are no signs of that being the case so far.
We could use a man like de Vrij in our ranks, and the prospect of signing him for nothing simply cannot be passed upon. We could use defensive signings in our squad since there is a lack of reliable options in the centre-back department at this moment.

After all, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies are the only dependable choices for Conte. Even then, one could argue how Dier can be upgraded while Davies is not a natural central defender either. As such, de Vrij could become a starter for us instantly due to his prior experience of playing under the man in charge.
For that to happen, though, it seems that we will have a stern challenge at hand with the Citizens and Ligue 1 club vying to get their hands on de Vrij. So let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the coming months ahead of the next term.
