Tottenham Hotspur dealt transfer blow as Brentford boss Thomas Frank makes Christian Eriksen claim

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a transfer blow after Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed that they have “a very good chance” to keep hold of Christian Eriksen. The latter has been linked with a return to his former club, but his future appears to be still open at this moment.

Eriksen has proven to the football world that he still can play at a top level following the unfortunate cardiac arrest he suffered last summer. He has impressed since returning to play regular football with the Bees, which has seen him attract interest from elsewhere. Tottenham are joined by Newcastle United and Manchester United in the transfer race right now.

Speaking in an interview with BBC (h/t The Independent), Frank has expressed that he is confident that his side can keep hold of the Danish midfielder past this season. The Brentford boss added that he remains positive about the matter even though the final decision will be taken only this summer.

“I am always positive. I always believe we have a very good chance. I know he is happy here, he is enjoying his football. It is a decision that will be taken at the end of the season.”

Can Spurs reunite with Eriksen?

Spurs could be handed some concerning piece of news if Frank’s words are believed to be true. What a stay always remains a possibility, the Dane could simply be trying to instil some confidence that they can take on some of the big guns like Man United, for example, to keep Eriksen.

The ex-Inter Milan man had moved to Brentford Community Stadium on a short term deal which will expire at the end of the current campaign. While he is thirty years of age, the prospect of signing him for nothing still seems attractive if his performances for club and country are anything to go by.

We could use a creative outlet in our ranks since we have run into some struggles to break down opposition defence occasionally under Antonio Conte. That could be down to the lack of a presence in midfield who can cut through opponents with his wide range of passing skills.

Eriksen is one such option, and should he continue to perform like this for the rest of this term, we should do our best to facilitate a return this summer. Things would not be easy with Newcastle and the Red Devils posing competition, but the emotional weight surrounding a return could potentially shift things in our favour.

Then again, Brentford could hold such an advantage as well since they were the ones who believed in the Dane and gave him a chance to prove his worth. Hence, Frank being confident about a stay cannot be taken lightly, which makes up for an interesting couple of months up ahead.
