Antonio Conte gives concerning injury update on Sergio Reguilon ahead of Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur clash
Antonio Conte has issued a concerning injury update on Sergio Reguilon ahead of the match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday. His team will travel to Anfield to take on one of the best teams in world football right now as their Champions League qualification hopes are in line.
Reguilon had picked up an injury in the build-up to the 0-0 draw against Brentford last month. He was still named on the bench on that day, but that was not the case in their 3-1 victory against Leicester City early this month. Now, he will miss yet another match tomorrow after failing to return to training sessions.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Conte has now confirmed that the Spanish defender is out of contention for this weekend’s fixture. The boss even suggested that Reguilon could be out on the stands for the remainder of this season.
“He is not available. He hasn’t had a training session with us. I honestly don’t know, there are only two weeks before the end of the season, whether it is possible for him to come back.”
Another damning blow
We still have four matches to play in the Premier League this season, so losing the 25-year-old would be a major concern, especially when there are worries regarding Ryan Sessegnon’s fitness levels. Injuries have ravaged us at the tail end of this term which does not bode well for our challenge to get into the top four places.
The Reds would undoubtedly be a steep hill to climb, and we would have wanted every single player available to get the better of them. However, it seems that we may have to do with just Sessegnon in the left wing-back position for tomorrow’s game.
What’s more, that could also be a similar picture for the rest of this campaign if Conte’s worrying doubt is something that could be considered. Let’s hope that is not the case, as we would want to reduce Sessegnon’s workload since he has recently returned to full fitness following another hamstring blow.
Fortunately, we do not have any other injury concerns to deal with for Saturday’s fixture against Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Spurs coach has revealed that matter in his pre-match presser which would at least give some sigh of relief for now.
“No other injuries.”
The likes of Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty have already been ruled out for the rest of this season. Whether Reguilon would add to their list or not remains to be seen if we get any more updates regarding his recovery.

Despite our mixed form recently, we are confident about enjoying a good result against Klopp’s team even though they have been unstoppable over the past few weeks. Our players have raised their game against top-class opposition like them so let’s hope to see that happen once again tomorrow. We did enjoy a good result against them last time around, so whether we can better that or not will only be known in due time.
