Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly among top defensive targets for Tottenham Hotspur this summer
According to Football.London, Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly is among the top defensive targets for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window. He would undoubtedly be a great acquisition for them indeed, despite him nearing the twilight of his playing career.
Antonio Conte is set to scour the Serie A market for defensive additions at the end of this season. Tottenham have identified Koulibaly as one of the potential options as they look to back their manager by bringing in signings this summer.
The Senegalese international is among the top defensive choices on Spurs’ shortlist at this moment. He is also joined by Inter Milan duo Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar as the English club look to boost their backline with quality reinforcements.
Koulibaly to join Spurs?
Koulibaly has once again been rock solid at the back this campaign helping his country win the African Cup of Nations recently. The 30-year-old has also been excellent for Napoli this term, contributing to their title challenge even though the Scudetto appears to be a distant possibility right now.
The Serie A ace has earned ten clean sheets this season while also scoring three goals and making two assists from 31 appearances across all competitions. He had missed a part of the campaign with a major injury, which could have played a role in his side falling off in their title challenge in the league.
Even though the African superstar is nearing the end of his playing career, he remains to be at the peak of his physical prowess. As such, he could prove to be a great signing from our side as we look to bolster our defensive ranks for the next term.
After all, the likes of Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have not been preferred by Conte as the boss has often depended on Ben Davies, who is not even a natural centre-back. Japhet Tanganga, who is currently out injured, could also be moved out for a better replacement if the coach asks for it.

Koulibaly would be a great choice in such a case, especially when the Tottenham manager wanted to secure the defender’s signature when he was at Chelsea. Perhaps, he could finally get his hands on the centre-back but let’s wait and see how this situation would turn out this summer.
Even if we lose out on the Senegal central defender, it is good to know that we have backup options like Bastoni and Skriniar, who are equally good in terms of their quality. It will be interesting to see whether we can get our hands on any of them after this season.
