Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Christian Eriksen seriously considers Brentford stay
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Christian Eriksen is seriously considering the option to stay with Brentford past this summer. He has been excellent since returning to action following the horror incident that he suffered last year.
Eriksen had joined the Bees on a short term deal which will expire at the end of the current season. Several teams like Tottenham and Leicester City have turned their attention towards him following his impressive performances for club and country. Thomas Frank’s side are eager to keep hold of him at all costs moving forward.
Now, the Dane is giving serious thought to staying at Brentford Community Stadium, even though a final decision will be made only after this season. The midfielder wants to play for his national team in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and a move elsewhere is more of a risk as he can remain a starter at this current club.
Transfer blow for Spurs?
The 30-year-old’s latest stance would be concerning, to say the least, for our interest as we could use a man of his quality in our ranks. The midfield is one of those areas that we must bolster this summer as there is a lack of adequate depth, which could affect us during a long season.
Even if Antonio Conte uses a system that calls for just two midfielders at once, it is still not ideal to just have four options in our squad. After all, we will engage in various competitions next season plus a good depth is necessary to make rotations to keep the players fresh throughout the campaign.
Moreover, we also lack a natural creative presence like Eriksen in midfield as our other options do lack that edge to make the defence-splitting passes. That is one of the reasons why we have struggled to create chances leading to shots on targets in certain phases this term.

Signing the former Inter Milan for free would be a great prospect indeed, especially after he proved his worth following his cardiac arrest. However, the latest updates do not instil confidence in us at all if the attacking midfielder plans to stay with Frank’s team after this season.
We must change this situation and use the value of an emotional return to make a case for ourselves with the Bees superstar. At the same time, we should also assure him that performances would be rewarded with minutes moving forward. Whether that will be enough to impact his decision or not remains to be seen.
