Arsenal in internal discussions to sign Tottenham Hotspur linked Youri Tielemans
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Arsenal are currently engaged in internal discussions regarding a potential move for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans. According to The Sun, Tielemans has also been linked with a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the next season.
Tielemans has a contract with Leicester, which will expire in the summer of 2023. He has rejected an extension offer from his club several months before as he is looking to leave them at the end of the current campaign. The Gunners are claimed to be one of the “three top clubs” interested in his services.
Mikel Arteta’s side regards the Belgian as one of the best options on the market, and they are holding talks among themselves regarding a potential move. Champions League football is stated to be a key factor in securing his signature with a deal far from being agreed upon at the moment.
Can Spurs beat off their bitter rivals?
There is an obvious factor that gives Arsenal an advantage over their North London rivals at this moment. After all, the former is firmly in contention to finish in the top four places of the Premier League table, which means that Antonio Conte’s side may not be able to offer CL football.
If that is key to signing Tielemans, then Spurs’ chances would be dealt a serious blow as of now. Then again, the season is still at large, so there could be a turnaround in the coming months even though it lies outside their hands at this instant.
The 25-year-old would undoubtedly have been a great addition to Conte’s squad, especially as they look to raise their quality moving forward. Signing top-notch players would be the way to overcome their trophy plight, but it seems that prising away Tielemans could be difficult under the current circumstances.
The Foxes appear to be set to sell Tielemans in a deal worth around £40million for a player of his quality. Not to mention, the valuable experience of playing in the PL further makes him an attractive target even though the price could be considered a bit expensive for someone nearing the last year of his contract.
Then again, the Belgian midfielder also has attracted attention from Real Madrid and Manchester United, making him one of the most sought after midfielders. Hence, the valuation could be deemed reasonable, but it seems that Tottenham may not receive an opportunity to make a case for now.

The upcoming NLD could play a key role in Tielemans’ pursuit, as a win would reduce the gap between the two North London clubs. That could pave the way for an exciting end to the season and give Conte’s side more hope to qualify for the CL, which will be useful to sign the central midfielder.
