Inter Milan will consider offers for Lautaro Martinez amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Inter Milan will consider offers for Lautaro Martinez amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur for a potential transfer. He has been in fine form in recent weeks and was heavily involved in saving his side from falling out of contention to win the Scudetto recently.
Inter are going through a bit of a rough phase financially, which has forced their hands to take dire measures to overcome the situation. As such, they are ready to entertain proposals for Martinez and have named a £51million asking price as a result. Tottenham are handed a boost due to this update, but they will face competition for his services.
Arsenal are keen on getting their hands on the Argentinian, and they could even make him their primary target if Champions League qualification is achieved. However, the striker has reiterated multiple times that he is “happy” with life at Giuseppe Meazza, so it remains to be seen if he would be willing to leave this summer.
Should Spurs sign Martinez?
The 24-year-old recently facilitated a comeback win for the Nerazzurri by scoring a brace in the 4-2 win against Empoli to keep them in contention to win the Serie A title. That has seen his tally amount to 23 goals and three assists from 45 appearances across all competitions this season.
The Inter ace has shown time and time again why he is one of the best in his position this term. He would be a great addition to Antonio Conte’s squad indeed, although questions can be raised on where he would fit in, considering how Harry Kane is leading the line right now.
There are doubts regarding Kane’s future at N17, especially after his failed transfer move to Manchester City last summer. Should he push for a move once again, we have to prepare for a worst-case scenario, so Martinez would be a great replacement in such a case.
However, if Kane does decide to stay with us moving forward, there is not much availability for Martinez to have a role with us. After all, Conte has already structured his attack in a way that Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski have formed a great partnership with the England captain.

It would not make sense for the Spurs boss to scrap that progress and change the entire system to fit Martinez in a two-man attacking set-up. The efforts should instead be focused on strengthening the forward line with quality additions in backup roles for the key starters.
Kane, for example, does not have a natural replacement in our ranks, but it is unreasonable to think that Martinez would accept a subdued role when he could play regularly for Simone Inzaghi’s side. However, if the former does depart, then we would not need to spend much, considering the comparatively low valuation for the Argentine attacker.
