Tottenham Hotspur get transfer boost as Barcelona set to sell Memphis Depay this summer
According to the Spanish publication Marca (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost as Barcelona are set to let Memphis Depay leave in the summer transfer window. This update will be a great piece of news for the English club if there are active plans to sign him after this season.
Barca are looking to bring in fresh faces at the end of this term, but they will need to part ways with several players for that reason. They are considering Depay as one of the potential sales this summer alongside a host of others as well. Tottenham could get their hands on the attacker as a result as they have already expressed an interest in him.
However, Spurs would still face some obstacles in their pathway if they are hoping to facilitate a transfer for the Dutchman. That is because they will have to deal with competition from Napoli as well, who are tipped to be another potential destination for the forward.
Depay to Spurs?
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a mixed campaign with the Blaugrana side so far, but much of it is because of him being played out of position and the injuries he suffered during this period. Despite that, he has scored 12 goals and assisted twice from 35 matches across all competitions.
That is still a solid return, which makes the La Liga ace an attractive addition to our squad for the next season. We could potentially need a man of his talents in our ranks depending upon how the future of other players would turn out after this term.
Steven Bergwijn, for example, has already expressed how he is open to leaving the North London side this summer. We still do not know what lies in store for Bryan Gil when his loan spell at Valencia ends at the end of the current campaign.
Lucas Moura, meanwhile, has seen his minutes reduce considerably following Dejan Kulusevski’s arrival in January. One could question whether Lucas Moura is happy with his current situation. Finally, we also need a backup for Harry Kane, which opens up spots for Depay should he arrive this summer.
However, it is still uncertain whether Depay himself would entertain a move elsewhere. At the same time, we also need to be ready to overcome the challenge from Luciano Spalletti’s side. Let’s hope that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy would be able to back Conte with quality signings such as the former Manchester United man.

Spurs may remember how Depay was not that impressive during his spell at Old Trafford, but Conte is known for getting the best out of the players he really wants playing in his system. As for Depay, this would offer him a chance at redemption in a league that wasn’t kind to him when he was last here.
