Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur battle Arsenal to sign Racing star Carlos Alcaraz
According to the Spanish outlet Marca (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur will face off against Arsenal to sign Racing star Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the summer transfer window. He is also known by the name of Charly Alcaraz and has been dubbed the “next Lautaro Martinez” purely for the price he is expected to fetch in the future.
Alcaraz is one of the highly-rated prospects in Latin America following his steady rise to the stop since promoting to the first team set up back in 2020. He has garnered a host of attention from top clubs across Europe, with Tottenham and the Gunners now joining the transfer race.
Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven and Wolverhampton Wanderers are the other interested parties posing competition for Spurs. The Argentinian is contracted until 2026 but could be available for just £16million despite having a release clause worth £20.5million.
Who is Carlos Alcaraz?
The 19-year-old is primarily a central midfielder in trade, but he has proven to be reliable when used in other positions in midfield. The youngster has even played some games as a right-winger showcasing the immense adaptability that he possesses at such a young age.
The Argentine talent has been in fine form this season, scoring five goals and assisting twice from 17 matches across all competitions. He has caught people’s eye, especially for his free-kick technique, which makes him a dangerous threat from set-pieces.
Moreover, Alcaraz’s ability to dribble through opponents and win fouls makes up for an interesting combo of skills. Despite possessing an aggressive playstyle, the midfielder does remain composed quite often, which is a rare sight to see among young prospects who are eager to showcase their worth.
As such, it is not surprising to see why clubs are lining up to try their chances to sign the South American in the future. While his price tag is pricey for a player not exposed to European football, he has shown all the signs of being one of the gems who come from Latin soil.

Hence, it would be wise if Antonio Conte’s side would get their hands on Alcaraz as he could potentially become a future superstar. Should we finalise a move for him, it would be best to play him in the academy initially to get him used to European football.
Once that is done, we can look to slowly integrate him into the first team or loan him out to get experience based on the circumstances. But for that, we have a steep hill to climb with several major European sides vying to secure the Racing starlet’s signature.
