Antonio Conte feels that Tottenham were rightly awarded a penalty vs Burnley
Speaking to the press after the game against Burnley as quoted by Football.London, Spurs manager Antonio Conte feels that the decision to give his team a penalty following a handball incident in the box was “200%” justified.
Spurs went into the game against Burnley knowing that they had to win at all costs to keep the pressure up on Arsenal. They continue to fight for a top-four spot despite their fate no longer being in their own hands.
The Lilywhites won 1-0 against the Clarets thanks to a solitary goal from Harry Kane who slotted home a penalty calmly right on the stroke of half-time. Spurs were awarded the spot-kick deep into added time at the end of the first half following a handball by Ashley Barnes.
Speaking about the decision to award a penalty to Tottenham, Italian coach Antonio Conte said that the penalty was quite blatant and very much warranted.
“It was 200% a penalty, not 100%. It was so clear. When your arm is in this way and you take the ball. I think it was so clear.”
Much needed win?
Whilst far from convincing, Spurs managed to get over the line against Burnley and right now, that is all that matters. Spurs have managed to add three important points to the kitty in their push for a top-4 spot, meaning Arsenal now have to go out and win their game in hand.
They find themselves fourth at least for now, with Arsenal yet to play their game against Newcastle. Conte’s men have managed to pile the pressure on the Gunners and will be hoping to see their rivals slip up.
Spurs still have one game in hand, against the Canaries. If Arsenal slip, Conte and his team will go into the final matchday with their fate in their own hands. Ideally, they will be hoping for that.

If not, Spurs will have to win against Norwich and hope Arsenal drop points against Everton. It remains to be seen as to what happens but with three points secured, Conte will be a relieved man.
