Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur battle Manchester United for Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka

According to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur are rivalling Manchester United for the services of Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan Ndicka for a potential transfer ahead of this summer. He has played a major role in helping his side win the Europa League title recently at the cost of Rangers.

Ndicka will see his current contract with Frankfurt expire at the end of the next season. That has made Tottenham and Man United alerted about his potential availability, and they are keeping tabs on the situation as a result. That being said, he is open to staying at his current club, especially since they will be playing in the Champions League next term.

Both Premier League clubs are looking to bolster their respective defences and are eager to get their hands on one of the best young centre-backs in world football right now. The Red Devils could become quite troublesome for Antonio Conte as they are also targeting a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torres, who has been linked with Spurs.

Ndicka’s future decision?

The North London club have seen their backline improve quite a bit under Conte so far, but there is a clear need for further improvements if there are plans to win titles. The defensive trio of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies have done quite well over the past few months.

Then again, Davies remains an odd one out as he is not a natural centre-back, and his lack of familiarity in that role has led to susceptible situations at times. Moreover, we could also use more quality additions due to the lack of dependable centre defenders on our bench.

Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have not been preferred by Conte in recent months, but they have returned to action in the past few games following Romero’s injury. The duo has been solid when given minutes, but it remains to be seen if that is enough for them to stay at N17 past the current campaign.

Ndicka would undoubtedly be a great addition indeed, as he has been sensational for the Bundesliga side throughout this term. Signing the Frenchman could be a challenge with the Manchester club actively trying to facilitate a move to back their incoming manager Erik ten Hag.

That being said, it would not be too much of a reach to say that perhaps Conte’s team could have the edge over the Mancunians if they can qualify for the next season’s CL. Then again, we have to wait and see whether the 22-year-old would agree to a move since he can also remain with his current club to feature in the prestigious competition.

However, the fans would hope that Fabio Paratici can build upon his solid transfer business back in January and bring in the desired targets this summer as well. Whether Ndicka would be among those or not would only be known in due time.
