Transfer News: Preston North End show loan interest in Tottenham Hotspur starlet Dane Scarlett

According to journalist Tom Barclay of The Sun on Twitter, Preston North End have expressed their interest in securing the signature of Tottenham Hotspur starlet Dane Scarlett on a loan transfer this summer. He is one of the highly-rated prospects to come up from the academy, and the fans are hoping to see him succeed at the club moving forward.

Scarlett had recently penned a new deal with Tottenham, which will see him remain at N17 until 2026. He is highly regarded by many supporters to be the next big superstar who will come up from the current academy setup. He has been excellent in the youth system, but a new challenge could await him in the future.

That is because Preston are interested in signing the English attacker on a temporary move ahead of the next season. They are not alone, though, as several other Championship sides are also plotting to facilitate a loan transfer for the talented centre-forward after this term.

A loan seems best for Scarlett

Football.London has already revealed that Spurs are planning to loan out the 18-year-old at the end of the current campaign. If that is the case, then it would not be too much of a reach to say that approaches from the interested parties would be entertained by the club.

As such, a move to Deepdale could be on the cards for Scarlett, although the same can be said for the other interested parties. A loan could be in the best interest of the young attacker since experiencing senior team football would do a lot of good for his natural progression.

Then again, one would be wary of what had happened with Troy Parrott, as he did struggle to impose himself after being loaned out to the Championship in the early stages. He is currently playing his trade temporarily at MK Dons which could suggest that a move to League One could be best for Scarlett as well.

That is certainly reasonable, as taking one step at a time may be best for someone who has not experienced senior football regularly. Then again, growth is not linear for every footballer, so those who rate Scarlett higher than Parrott would argue that the former can cope with the raised challenge of playing in the Championship.

It remains to be seen where Scarlett would end up playing in the next season. His progression should be the main factor that the North Londoners must keep in mind when reaching a loan agreement. Hence, it would be best if we find a place that suits his strengths which would further help him get accustomed to the new challenge.

Whether that will be with Ryan Lowe’s side or not would need to be seen in due time. The fans would hope that Scarlett can enjoy a great loan spell just as Oliver Skipp did to earn a spot in the first team.
