Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is a target for Premier League club Everton. According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Toffees boss Frank Lampard has identified Winks as one of his midfield options.

The 26-year-old has been a part of the Tottenham youth set-up since he was six years old, joining the academy in 2002. In 2014, Winks signed his first professional contract with the club.

Since then, he has gone on to make 202 first-team appearances for the club and was a key player under former boss Mauricio Pochettino. Unfortunately, his stock has fallen in recent months and the arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur will only have made his life harder.

His performances back then didn’t go unnoticed, as he earned 10 England caps during that period. He was also instrumental in Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final in 2019.

However, Winks has struggled to establish his spot under Antonio Conte with his last start for Spurs going back all the way to February in the 4-0 demolition of Leeds United.

According to a previous report by the Evening Standard, Winks is understood to prefer a move to another Premier League club since he wants to move somewhere he has a chance of reviving his England career.

Everton may turn out to be the ideal destination for him, and playing under Lampard – one of the most accomplished midfielders of all time, may be just what his career needs at this juncture.

The Merseyside club were involved in a relegation battle last season, which they narrowly escaped. Adding Winks to the fold may boost their chances of not being involved in such a scrap again.

More Tottenham Hotspur

If the move does go through, Winks will become the second player this year to make the switch from North London to Merseyside – after Dele Alli’s move to the Toffees earlier in January. It is fair to say that Alli’s move hasn’t even come close to meeting expectations.

Conte is understood to be after a midfielder in the Jorginho mould and with many incoming transfers expected this summer, it is crucial that the club moves on players who do not fit Paratici and Conte’s vision.
