Tottenham Hotspur dealt major setback in their pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major blow in their attempts to sign Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
The defender had been identified as one of Tottenham’s major targets for this transfer window, with Premier League rivals Manchester United also holding interest in securing the Italian’s services.
Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti had previously hinted that his client may reluctantly move if the club forces a sale. However, he met with Inter chiefs on Wednesday afternoon and has claimed that the defender will definitely stay at San Siro.
The 23-year-old extended his contract at San Siro only last year, with his current deal running until 2024. Known to be a big Nerazzurri fan, Bastoni has been inclined towards staying at Inter unless forced out.
His agent has now rubbished that possibility after fruitful talks with the Inter board. He said:
“He will definitely stay here. He has a contract at Inter. He is happy. It’s not a problem.”
What are Spurs’ other options?
This update arrives as a major setback for Spurs, who may now have to consider other options in the market. RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Villareal’s Pau Torres are other alternatives that have been discussed.
