Tottenham Hotspur are expected to appoint Rangers chief scout Andy Scoulding
As revealed exclusively by The Telegraph (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Rangers chief scout Andy Scoulding later this summer.
In what is poised to be a big summer of change at Hotspur way, Spurs are expected to not only sign many new players but changes in the personnel inside the club are expected as well. Scoulding has been one of the key figures behind the scenes at Rangers, helping the club re-establish its dominance in Scottish football.
His phenomenal eye for talent helped Rangers recruit talent like Joe Aribo from Charlton, Calvin Bassey from Leicester City’s academy and Ryan Kent from Liverpool. All three players played their part in Rangers’ dream run to the Europa League final last season.
The highly-rated scout started his career as an analyst at Fulham before being part of the scouting team at Craven Cottage. Spells at Liverpool, the Football Association and Valencia followed before he made the move to Scotland.
Fabio Paratici is reportedly looking to hire a second DOF to serve as his number two. However, Scoulding isn’t being considered for that position. He will join in a scouting capacity at Hotspur Way.
Spurs remain linked with many big names like Alessandro Bastoni, Pau Torres and Gabriel Jesus amongst several others. However, all those players have a hefty price tag based on their superstar reputations.
What can Scoulding bring to Spurs?
Using Scoulding’s inputs, Spurs can identify talented unknown players, get them on the cheap, and raise their stock significantly. His track record suggests that the North London club will benefit from his very good eye for raw, undiscovered talent in the months and years to come.
Tottenham have so far confirmed two signings for the summer – the arrival of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and Fraser Forster from Southampton. Both deals have been free transfers, which is almost a trademark of Paratici’s way of doing business.
