Transfer News: Tottenham boss Conte is interested in Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez
According to reports in Italy, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is interested in bringing Inter Milan’s star forward Lautaro Martinez to the club this summer.
Spurs have already faced disappointment in their pursuit of another Inter star, 23-year-old centre-back Alessandro Bastoni who is more than happy to commit to the Nerazzurri, as revealed by his agent.
However, that setback isn’t going to affect Spurs’ business plans for the summer. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t the Express) suggests that Martinez is next on Conte’s radar, as the Italian is now eyeing a reunion with his former striker.
During their time together, the pair helped Inter to their first Scudetto in 11 years and ended the dominance of Juventus in the process – something that Spurs DOF Fabio Paratici knows everything about.
Martinez has scored 74 goals and provided 24 assists in 181 games for Inter Milan and has been a subject of interest at Spurs for a while. At 245, the Argentine is of the right age to explode onto the scene in North London.
The North London club agreed on a deal to bring the Argentinian to the club last summer, but Inter pulled the plug on the transfer following their decision to sell Romelu Lukaku.
Will Martinez finally move to Spurs?
That question is more difficult to answer than just saying yes or no. Everything was in place for Martinez to join Spurs last year before circumstances beyond their control took over.
Paratici and co. have also struggled in their attempts to land another Inter star in Bastoni. While Inter seemed open to doing business, it’s convincing the player that has proven to be difficult.
However, Inter are linked with a return for former striker Romelu Lukaku only one year after they sold him to Chelsea. They are also linked with a move for Torino defender Gleison Bremer.

To fund both transfers, Inter would likely need to balance their books to steer clear of financial troubles. Those factors combined may create a scenario for Spurs, which they may be able to capitalise on and get a deal for Martinez over the line successfully this time.
