Tottenham Hotspur could consider signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi
After seemingly having failed in their attempts to sign Alessandro Bastoni, Tottenham Hotspur can now slowly shift their focus to other targets.
RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Villareal’s Pau Torres have been linked to the North London club in recent weeks, but a surprising alternative to those potentially rather expensive options could be Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
According to a report from The Athletic, Spurs have been “big admirers” of the Chelsea academy graduate who since his move to Palace has excelled under the tutelage of Patrick Vieira.
Antonio Conte and DOF Fabio Paratici are very specific about the kind of defender they want – someone who can play on the left side of a back three, and that is a very specific requirement.
The Athletic has claimed that an “established Premier League centre-back” who is on the move this summer was recently offered to Spurs, but the club turned the offer down due to the player not fulfilling the back three criteria.
RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Villareal’s Pau Torres – both of them qualify per Tottenham’s requirement, but signing either of the two is expected to be complicated
Why Guehi?
Leipzig’s asking price for Gvardiol is expected to be in the region of £80million. Pau Torres reportedly rejected the chance to move to Spurs last summer, but he ticks all boxes that Spurs require. This time with Champions League football, convincing the Spaniard is likely to be much easier than last time around.
Finally, if none of those work, Spurs may end up following a new direction. Maybe they will consider Guehi who they rate so highly, as the Athletic suggests. But city rivals Crystal Palace will be under no pressure to sell, given that the 21-year-old has four years remaining on his contract.

A lot is yet to be figured out by those at Hotspur Way in regards to transfer plans for the summer and despite the disappointment of not landing Bastoni, Spurs are expected to sign at least one of their targets.
As is the nature of the transfer window, plans in June and plans in August don’t always correspond. Despite the disappointment of missing out on a top target, Tottenham have a long, long stretch of the window left to figure something out.
