Christian Eriksen takes key decision regarding his future amid Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t Daily Express), Christian Eriksen desires to take on a new challenge amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Almost a year ago, the footballing world held its breath during a UEFA Euro 2020 match. Eriksen slumped on the ground while playing for Denmark versus Finland due to a heart attack. The medical personnel’s quick response averted tragedy, and Eriksen went on to make a miraculous and complete recovery.
The 30-year-old made his Premier League comeback in January with Brentford, where he was instrumental in their journey to PL safety. His contract, though, was only for six months, and he will become a free agent on June 30.
Brentford have offered the 30-year-old a new deal following his displays for the Community Stadium outfit. But he is said to be assessing other options, with a stay in London preferred.
Eriksen was a fan favourite at Tottenham before leaving in 2020, and if he returns in the summer, supporters are sure to welcome him back with open arms. It’s unclear whether Spurs are in the lead in the battle to sign him ahead of the new season.
Returning to north London would also bring him back into contact with Antonio Conte, with whom he won the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season. Conte has already expressed his wish to work with Eriksen again, which is good news.
Given that Eriksen is available on a free transfer and has enough Premier League experience, he could get a slew of offers from Premier League clubs. Ever since his time at Ajax Amsterdam, he was always rated highly and has clearly gone on to justify the hype.
Tottenham are in desperate need of a creative outlet in the team, with too much dependence on Harry Kane to drop deep and orchestrate play; Eriksen’s return could help us in that regard.

Eriksen would be able to play Champions League football again if he returns to Spurs, something that he won’t be opposed to given the glory and prestige that comes with playing in Europe.
The Dane may not be a regular first-team option here but with the Lilywhites competing in four competitions next season, depth is of the utmost importance.
