Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur leading the race for Villareal defender Pervis Estupinan
According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage in the transfer race of Pervis Estupinan.
After a number of loan spells during his time at Watford, the 24-year-old signed for Villarreal in September 2020. Despite his unfavourable time with the English club, he has made a total of 73 games for the Yellow Submarine, with 10 of them coming in the Champions League.
Despite his contract not expiring until June 2027, the Ecuador international might be on the move again after Villarreal placed him on the market. And it is believed that Spurs are leading the battle to sign Estupinan.
It’s worth noting that Giovani Lo Celso could be part of the aforementioned transaction. The Argentine international spent the second part of last season on loan at the Ceramica and had a decent spell in his side’s run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
With Villarreal willing to transfer Estupinan and Tottenham eager to offload Lo Celso, a swap deal may be beneficial to all parties involved. Most Spurs fans would also not be against it.
Spurs have already recruited Inter Millan’s Ivan Perisic to shore up the left side of the pitch, but bringing in a natural left wing-back might allow Perisic to play further forward.
Estupinan was named to the 2021 Copa America Team of the Tournament alongside Cristian Romero, indicating that the 24-year-old has lots of talent.
Emerson Royal appears to be on his way out this summer, with Conte willing to move him at the end of the season. Some may argue that the Brazilian defender, who has just finished a full season with us, should not be sold. Fabio Paratici, on the other hand, must remain by the manager and offer him what he wants if the coach feels his departure is for the best.

Estupinan is now one of the most highly regarded prospects in the Championship, and having him join our ranks would be really exciting. Furthermore, he would cost a significantly lower amount if the Spurs manage to add Lo Celso in the deal.
